BMI provides a reliable indicator of body fatness for most people and is used to screen for weight categories that may lead to health problems. These calculators provide BMI and the corresponding weight category or BMI-for-age percentile on a CDC BMI-for-age growth chart.

University of Minnesota


Diabetes and Endocrinology Clinic: The Endocrinology and Diabetes Clinic provides comprehensive, coordinated care for diabetes, thyroid disease, and metabolism issues. The Minnesota Center for Eating Disorders Research: The Eating Disorders Research Program conducts studies on anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, and obesity under the direction of Scott J. Crow, MD. Weight Loss Management and Surgery: Weight Loss Management and Surgery at the University of Minnesota Medical Center is comprised of a team of bariatric surgeons and healthcare professionals dedicated to helping you accomplish your health and weight loss goals. Lifestyle Medicine Program for Weight Management: This clinical service is designed to help adult patients with a BMI >30 to achieve a healthy weight through diet and activity, and staffed by a family doctor, psychologist and nutritionist. It is a weight management and healthy living program based on healthy lifestyle choices, rooted in academic research, not focused on surgical or pharmacological options, and built on an interprofessional approach. Hennepin Bariatric Center
The Bariatric Surgery Center and Obesity Program at the Hennepin County Medical Center provides a comprehensive weight loss program including an initial evaluation, full array of services and follow-up care. Minneapolis VA Medical Center (must qualify for veterans benefits)
MOVE! Weight Management Program helps Veterans lose weight, keep it off, and improve their health! The tiered weight management program treatments range from self-management support (level 1) to outpatient group education sessions (level 2-3) and inpatient intensive treatment with possible bariatric surgery (level 4-5). Minnesota Center for Obesity, Metabolism and Endocrinology (MNCOME)
MNCOME, located in Eagan, provides comprehensive health care and education for patients with endocrine diseases, including obesity. The Center recently introduced its new Childhood and Adolescent Healthy Weight Initiative, a program designed to help children and their families learn how to improve nutrition and increase physical activity. HealthEast’s Ways to Wellness
HealthEast’s Woodwinds Health Campus in Woodbury offers a 12-week program taught by both registered dietitians and certified personal trainers. This program, called Ways to Wellness, includes group support, physical activity, behavior modification, and basic nutrition. HealthPartners Weight Management Program
This personalized phone-based course helps build positive lifestyle habits necessary for successful weight management. Nutrition and exercise experts will contact you by phone to help you establish appropriate physical activity, nutrition, and stress management goals. The course includes 10 self-paced 15-minute phone sessions. The course includes a 3-ring handbook of the session materials, a pedometer, food/activity logs, and an action planner. Overeaters Anonymous Unity Intergroup
A support group that uses the 12-step program to assist individuals in changing overeating behavior. Unity Intergroup serves approximately 55 Overeaters Anonymous meetings in the Twin Cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul) and outlying communities in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Personalized Weight Management
Develop a personalized weight loss plan through a series of individual consultations with a registered dietitian. Meets at Park Nicollet Clinic in St. Louis Park, Brooklyn Center, and Burnsville. The first session is 60 minutes with a registered dietitian, then two 15-minute sessions in the clinic, and the final four sessions either in the clinic or via phone. Weight Watchers
The program includes weigh-ins, support, and meal planning during ongoing weekly meetings at various locations. Call 1-800-651-6000 for fee and more information. The Weight Watchers online program provides convenient access to weight loss resources including recipes, workout demonstrations, and tools to monitor your food and exercise habits and monitor your weight. Allina Health Medical Weight Loss Program
The program provides individual and group formats of a medically supervised, nonsurgical weight loss option for patients with the chronic disease of obesity and morbid obesity.
